Yahoo bought Luminate, to strengthen the ad business

Yahoo bought startup company Luminate, known for its eponymous service that offers online advertising images.

Service temporarily stopped earlier this week to begin the process of transformation under the leadership of Yahoo.

The company, founded in 2008 in Mountain View, California, is an advertising network with over 180 million users and over 6 billion image views each month. The service allows marketers to place product and text ads on images.

Buying Luminate is 33rd asset that Yahoo made under the direction of Marissa Mayer, since she took control of the company a little more than two years. In the case of Yahoo will try to use Luminate, to strengthen the advertising business, which is in decline in recent years. For the last quarter revenue from ads that are traditionally important to Yahoo, declined by 7%.

In February this year Yahoo released a platform Gemini, which is oriented towards the so-called. "Natural ads" - those who fit more logically any content, not just attached to it as traditional ads.
