Imagination Technologies presented a new MIPS core and 64-bit processor

Corporation, Imagination Technologies, known primarily for its integrated graphics accelerator PowerVR, recently purchased the famous MIPS Technologies, a key competitor of ARM Holdings in the market for mobile devices. The new MIPS core named Warrior will be the first product of Imagination plan for the modernization of this processor architecture. The chip with the new kernel is called MIPS I6400 and can execute 64-bit instructions, the manufacturer claims that the processor is compact, economical and Supports OS Android.

Will offer several models of I6400 - up to six processing cores and up to 8MB cache second level. In chip integrated controller 256 breaks, dynamic power management for each core, the cores can work with different clock speeds and different supply voltages. The internal data bus is 256-bit external data bus and some models also can reach 256 households. The new chip is a versatile component that supports 128-bit SIMD instructions, allowing the same to work with 32 and 64-bit data, integer and floating point.

Imagination Technologies claims that their chips are 30 to 50 percent more productive than ARM Cortex-A53, but not more powerful core A57. Computer analysts are of the view that the emergence of a new processor, capable of running OS Android, can lead to a richer mobile market.
